The brief for this three-storey inner city residence focuses on the critical 3 dimensional massing of the building. The scale and materials of the three bedroomed house mediates the topography between the owner’s site and its surrounding built fabric.
The buildings main north facing facade introduces the buildings critical cross section by the extrusion of wall and floor plates, which weave and interlock to generate a sense of movement onto the elevation. A three-storey glazed atrium positioned over the entrance hall provides the desired interconnectivity’ between all floors, at the same time allowing light to enter adjacent rooms residing behind sliding aluminium screens. Bedrooms with en-suite bathroom arrangements are located on all levels allowing for total flexibility of the clients living requirements. A simple arrangement of courtyards (raised beds and water features) addresses the relationship of the built form to its closely positioned neighbours as well as securely linking the double garage.
